A speculative cover exploring the deadly glow behind America's luminous watch dials.

The story centers on an object that seemed magical at the time and turned out to be deadly, so I built the cover around an extreme close-up of a pocket watch dial, its radium-painted numerals glowing faintly against the dark. Rather than lean into nostalgia or glamour, I pushed the color palette toward a sickly, desaturated green, the same unsettling hue the women were told was harmless. The green is contrasted by a rusty orange, reflecting a patina-like hue.
A tight vignette narrows the frame further, creating a closed-in, claustrophobic feeling that mirrors the slow, hidden poisoning at the heart of the story. On the back, a close-up of the glowing paintbrushes themselves carries the same eerie light, a quiet nod to the "lip, dip, paint" technique that made the work so lethal.
